Christmas Day Run

My Christamas Run was an interesting run since it was the first time I used YakTrax on my shoes. I got them as a present for Christmas. They are basically metal springs that go on the bottom of your sneakers and allow you to run better in snow and ice.

I wasn't sure how they would work but after my 6 mile run I can say that they definitely worked and I really didn't notice that much of a difference. I was able to do the six miles in around 50 minutes.

I included a quick clip below of what my sneakers look like with the YakTrax on them. Please ignore the fact that I call my youngest daughter the wrong name. Don't tell Reese that I called her Kaylie by accident...ha...ha.

First Two Weeks

My first two weeks of training started off different than I had expected. I ended up having to travel for work. I was leaving for work from 12/7 to 12/19. I never thought my first two weeks of training for the marathon would be on the complete other side of the world...the Philippines!!!

Although it was nice outside and about 80 degrees every day I mainly trained on the treadmill in the hotel since I didn't know the area and didn't want to get lost. It was also very hard getting the energy to train each day since I was working at night (9pm-6am) and had to try to sleep during the day. Here is a clip of me at 7am after I came home from work explaining my training in the Philippines.

Each day after coming back to the hotel from work at 6am I would head down to the gym in the hotel. Although I was tired I never missed a day of training. The below clip will show you the gym that I spent the first two weeks of my training in. I was there so much the workers knew me as you can see by them waving in the video.

Look forward to more post this week now that I'm back in the States and will have to run in 20-30 degree weather...oh boy.

I Just Felt Like Running...

One day...for no particular reason...I decided to go for a run.

All my friends and family joke and compare me to Forrest Gump. I was never a runner at any point in my life until about 3 years ago I just decided to start running and haven't stopped since.
I'm now at the point where I can attempt to run a marathon which has been a personal goal of mine for about 11 years. Without the strength of my Aunt Maureen and the support of my family I would never have been able to get to where I am today.

With that being said I also have another person that will help inspire me during my training and during my marathon run. I am extremely happy to be running for such a great cause (Children's Hospital- Boston) and also glad to be matched up with Zach.

This blog is not for me...it's for Zach and all my friends and family who will be able to give me the support during my training and be the ones to cheer me on all the way to the finish line.

I won't be able to do it without all of you. I'll use this blog to keep everyone posted on my day to day training (the good and bad...I'll be honest).

I thank you all in advance for your help and support. Enjoy the below clip of Forrest Gump.
